Masterclass: Meet the Media

About Lesson

Connecting with local papers and radio stations will form a key part of your communications strategy as you work towards 2029 Local Elections.

Don’t underestimate the importance of local newspapers and radio stations in helping to building your profile in your local area. They are a vital source of information for communities, so you need to figure out how to get your story in print or online, or get yourself on air.

In this masterclass we invited three women - a local democracy reporter, an editor and a radio presenter, to tell us about their role, how you can build relationships in the media, how best to pitch a story,  or get an interview on radio, what their pet peeves are and how to maximise your media coverage in the run up to the Local Elections 2029 – starting now!

Our Meet the Media panel will include:

Katie O’Donovan, a Local Democracy Reporter for Tipperary and publishes exclusively for the Irish Independent, mainly online. Katie has previously worked with the Tipperary Star and the Limerick Post.

Mary Corcoranhas spent two decades working across print, broadcast and online media, both locally and nationally. This includes The Echo, the Irish Examiner, 96fm, Kfm, Greencross Publishing, Corkpolitics.ie, and the Cork Independent. She is currently Deputy Lifestyle Editor at The Echo, and editor of WoW! and the Holly Bough.

Islammiyah Saudique Kadejo, the Founder and CEO of GOCOM Radio, Ireland’s first multilingual community radio station. Her work spans radio production, media training and community engagement with a strong focus on social inclusion and cultural representation. She is deeply committed to amplifying underrepresented voices, particularly among migrant communities.
